Detailed description

Shadow Lakes Golf Club is a Public, 18-hole golf course located in Brentwood, California.

Shadow Lakes golf course first opened for play in 2001. Gary Roger Baird designed the par-71 layout.

With Mount Diablo providing a stunning backdrop, Shadow Lakes Golf Club offers panoramic views of the East Bay Area, from the Diablo Range in the west to the San Joaquin Valley in the east. Designed in a classic architectural style, Shadow Lakes is a bold design combining traditional course features with contemporary ones. The golf course showcases dramatic elevation change, native grasses that outline each hole, natural boulder outcroppings, and sharply sculpted bunkers. #16 is a great signature hole with an island green. The links-style characteristics from four sets of tees make for a challenging yet rewarding round of golf time after time, no matter your skill level; so everyone will have a great outing on the course.

Black tees: 6,710 yards, 72.0 / 136. Gold tees: 6,327 yards, 70.5 / 134. Men's Silver tees: 5,962 yards, 68.9 / 128. Women's Silver tees: 5,962 yards, 74.2 / 130. Women's Jade tees: 5,402 yards, 71.4 / 123.

2015

The course announced on its website in December 2015 that-

At this time, they would be limiting golf play to their sister course - Deer Ridge Golf Club, and eliminating daily play at the Shadow Lakes Golf Club on a "temporary basis" beginning December 1, 2015. This was done to enable them to address the state water crisis and focus much of their remaining resources primarily on Deer Ridge.  Deer Ridge remained open.

2017

Although the state is no longer experiencing drought conditions, the decision was made in early 2017 to close the course. There is also talk that Shadow Lakes and Deer Ridge Golf Clubs will merge into one 18-hole layout and develop senior living facilities where golf holes and a clubhouse currently exist.

2021

The facility has reopened as a regulation 9-hole golf course/

The driving range has 30 bays
Practice putting green
Play 18 holes: the course is a par 70, and 6,420 yards
Play 9 holes: the course is a par 35, and 3,210 yards
Play 4 sets of tees per hole on the newly renovated 9-hole regulation field

Greens and Fairways are in good shape. Pace of play in the AM is great. Practice facilities are there but not ideal. Staff is freidnly and do the best they can with what they have. No Pro shop so come prepared.

Interesting layout - nice elevation changes, beautiful views of Mt. Diablo and surrounding hills; but got a little tired of all the houses - just have to look past the houses to the horizon ... fair amount of water, one par 4 with an "island" green. Course condition - fairways had a fair amount of inconsistent ground and ground under repair, but tee boxes were okay and greens were nice. Paid $33 p/p with cart, certainly a bargain for this course on a weekend. Overall very much enjoyed the ambiance of the place. Nice gals working the bar! Will play again but next playing the sister course Deer Ridge.

Played a tournament that previously was held at Chardonnay in Napa. Shadow Lakes is not in the same category as Chardonnay - the course is only okay, the food was not very good - dry roast beef, overcooked vegetables, only one dessert choice.

An interesting course. Every hole is different with great variety up and down. There are several fairways where blind shots will benefit greatly from course knowledge. Greens are in excellent condition but breaks can be deceiving and get slower throughout the round.

got an exceptional price on golfnow. Staff is friendly and course was in good shape, especially for winter.

Fun layout and the mgmt is working to improve the course under a very adverse golf economy.

I play this course at least once a month and have experienced it through every season. I have to say, regardless of weather conditions, the fairways and greens are consistantly in good condition. There are a few areas with poor drainage but they are usually where you shouldn't be hitting your ball anyway. The course is basically an easy course with a few challenging holes. The view, the ambience and the PRICE keep me coming back.

The course is improving at a steady pace. The bunkers remain poor on most holes. The greens are challenging. But the rates have been lowered to attract more people and it has worked. It is a tremendous value but a very playable course for all skill levels.

Fair but very challenging layout. Extreme slope and difficulty on greens. Open driving on many holes. View views of surrounding area. Course is nicely maintained exception: condition of bunkers. Play was VERY slow on back nine and not marshalled.

ONE OF THE BETTER LOCAL COURSES. FAIRWYS ARE CHALLENGING, GREENS FAST.

Great golf course - fairly fast greens that run true - elevation changes, doglegs, challenging Par 3s, can get windy in the afternoon. Great quality for a reasonable price. If you live within 30 miles of Brentwood, it's worth the drive. There are two other good courses within 5 minutes of Shadow Lakes.

Right there with Roddy Ranch and Deer Ridge to make the "Big Three" in the area. This is the best shotmaker's course of the three and probably the toughest.
