Playing in the heat of summer, the conditions were what I expected: soft, slow greens and bushy fairways. We had the course to ourselves. I was disappointed with the layout. The front was tight and not in keeping with its Top 100 Public ranking. Very average. The back really only had about five spectacular holes, especially the par 3 16th(?), playing to an island green over a rocky wasteland. I would play again, but only in the $60-80 range. There are better, more interesting courses in Palm Springs that don't rely on the Dye name or PGA West.

The middle of the back nine sneak up on you if you have never played the course before. There are some interesting holes on the back nine but the front nine is nothing special. A better value is Silver Rock.

Look for the La Quinta packages. excellent price for a really good course. Nice staff. This is the third year we have played this course on the package. Will do it again next year

Pete Dye course, tough set up with pins on the corners of every green. Good layout. Played white tees 6300+ yards, plenty of course for single digits. Fast subtle greens. A lot of fun, playing this course plus the Norman and Nicklaus courses in late June.

The Mountain course is a classic. Holes 14-16 are three of the best in the desert, golf at its finest. Once again, however, you need to find a discount rate on this course from one of the on-line providers. The rack rate of $180 is too much to pay for this course.

The back nine is fantastic and dramatically beautiful, the front is ordinary. The rude staff turned us off a bit -- was a bit surprised by that, but they're obviously impressed with themselves for working at La Quinta.
