Detailed description

Rooster Run Golf Club is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Petaluma, California.

Rooster Run Golf Club opened in 1998. The course was designed by Fred Bliss.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 7,001 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,139 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 18, a par-5 that plays to 606 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 15, a par-3 that plays to 172 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 5, a 420 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Rooster Run is # 17, a 230 yard par-3.

The Rooster Run Golf Course was constucted on flat pastureland. Winding through the property were three creeks. Along their beds grew native willows, cottonwoods and oak trees. These creeks and two ancient trees were incorporated in the design of the golf course. 370,000 cubic of soil was moved in the shaping of the course. As a result, the course has undulating hills, six lakes and an island green. Thirty-nine fairway and green-side bunkers, add to the challeng of the course.

A fun course, relatively flat and easy to walk. Rolling, challenging greens in good shape. Some tough approaches. I heard it can get windy in the afternoon, making a lot of the holes into the wind.

Played this in December after heavier than normal rains. 20 plus inches last two months. Course is holding up. Wet areas but the fairways were cut and reasonable for so much rain. Greens were in excellent shape.

Greens had been aerated within last two weeks and not recently cut/rolled so very bumpy and ball took some unpredictable hops and turns. Probably cost everyone 6-8 putts!

I BELONGED TO A PRIVATE CLUB FOR MANY YEARS BEFORE SELLING MY MEMBERSHIP BECAUSE OF WIFE'S DEATH AND HIGH COST. VERY PLEASANTLY SURPRISED BY THE QUALITY OF ROOSTER RUN. EXCELLENT CONDITION, LARGE TESTING GREENS, SEVERAL LAKES, BARRANCAS, AND MULTIPLE TEES. WHEN I WAS YOUNG, I WAS A SCRATCH GOLFER, AND HAVE PLAYED ON MANY COURSES OVER THE YEARS. I'M NOW 85 AND PLAY IN THE LOW NINETIES FROM THE MEN'S TEES.

Better than average price and conditions for courses in Sonoma County.

Good course to get in some golf for a change of pace or for geographic convenience. Inexpensive for what you get.
