Detailed description

Pasatiempo Golf Club, is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Santa Cruz, California.

Pasatiempo Golf Course first opened for play in 1929. The course officially opened on September 8, 1929, with the first group to play consisting of Marion Hollins, Bobby Jones (considered the father of modern golf), Glenna Collett (U.S. Women's Amateur Champion) and Cyril Tolley (British Amateur Champion). Over 2,000 spectators gathered for the grand opening and followed this world-class foursome around the course.

Pasatiempo Golf Course was designed by Alister MacKenzie. Even though MacKenzie also designed Augusta National and Cypress Point, Pasatiempo was his favorite layout and where he made his American home, which still borders the sixth fairway.

The course was restored to its original glory over the course of 11 years 1996 - 2007 by Tom Doak. He did the work over a period of years in order to keep the course in play throughout.

#18 is a 169-yard par-3. It isn’t all that tough if you can fly the barranca and avoid the four greenside bunkers.

Pasatiempo is ranked #11 in Golf Magazine's Top 100 Courses You Can Play 2008 and ranked #31 in Golf Digest's 2005 America's Greatest Public Courses. Golf Digest also named Pasatiempo Golf Club as one of the top 3 courses you can play in California (along with Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill). Golf Magazine ranks Pasatiempo #55 in the Top 100 Courses in the U.S.

Pasatiempo Golf Club plays to 6,439 yards from the back tees for course rating is 72.6 and a slope rating of 139. The course par is 70.

Pasatiempo Golf Club is located in Santa Cruz, California, and many of its holes offer spectacular views of nearby Monterey Bay.

Great course, but make sure to keep it in the fairway. This one will sneak up and bite you!

Tough track from any tees. Difficult greens to read and putt. Several long carries. Think twice if you're a high handicapper or spray the ball.

one of the toughest courses in california. back side is a great 9 holes of golf. several perfect holes...2,3,5,7,10,12,14,16,17. price is getting out of line. worth $150-175...just too much $$ in this economy, alister mckenzie or not.

I've played this course twice, so don't feel any compulsion to do so again. If you are in the area and have already played all the big name courses and are looking for something to do, this would be an option. It is a municipal course and wildly overpriced. It is kept in decent condition and has some history, but the pace of play is atrocious. It has a couple of nice views (it is all downhill from #1 tee, literally and figuratively), but much of the course plays through some less than prime real estate.

Great course but over priced. Hate the driving range with mats only. Played a few years back for $ 175 which makes more sense.

A classic course, designed by Alister McKenzie who designed Augusta. He called Pasitiempo his favorite, such that he built his home and retired along side the 5th fairway. Excellent course, fun to play yet challenging. Definately a must play.

One of the best courses in California. A shotmakers dream course. Condition of the course a little below average due to recent aeration, but should be in prime condition in about three weeks. Good price with NCGA membership. You can walk this course pretty easily. Real golfers will love this course.

The chance to set foot on an Alister MacKenzie golf course is rare for a public player. If you have never been, then put it on your list and you won't be disappointed. MacKenzie lived in a home along the 6th fairway and #16 was his favorite hole. Tiger Woods lost the Western Intercollegiate Golf Tournament on #16 and Bobby Jones played on opening day back in 1929.

Wonderful location, weather and views; where else can you play a MacKennzie course and enjoy having it beat the dickens out of you. Nice understated clubhouse.

Alistar Mackenzie at his best. Some of his favorite holes are on this course. The opening hole on a clear day is spectacular. The course has been beautifully renovated. I've played Spyglass, Pebble, Spanish Bay, Poppy Hills, Half Moon Bay, this is, for my money the most interesting layout.

Pasa is a great course. When you are in the Monterey Bay Area, add it to the Pebble Beach experience.

Put it in your top 10 for sure, with the courses at both Bandon, OR and Kohler, WI. Then run over and play Spyglass Hills and maybe Pebble, Spanish Bay and Poppy Hills on the same trip.

Pin placements on day of play were very tuff. I enjoyed the course. Houses on a few holes were in danger of being hit.
