Detailed description

Fox Hollow at Lakewood golf course is a public 27-hole golf facility located in Lakewood, Colorado, 15 minutes away from Downtown Denver and sits near the edge of the Rocky Mountains. The facility has three 9-hole golf courses. They are, The Canyon Course, The Meadow Course and The Links Course. These three nine hole courses are rotated in three different 18 hole combinations and are played as one eighteen hole course and one nine hole course, and are rearranged every day.

Fox Hollow at Lakewood golf course first opened for play in 1993. The courses were designed by Denis Griffiths.

Fox Hollow offers 27 championship holes of golf in three distinctly different Nines:

The Canyon: Negotiate a challenging plunge down narrow Coyote Gulch, including Fox Hollow's signature fifth hole. This 445-yard par four hole includes an 80-foot elevation drop from the end of the fairway to the green. The hilly Canyon Course has five holes that play through a canyon.

The Meadow: Swing into this stream side Nine, where Bear Creek and other water hazards sparkle amid ancient cottonwood trees.

The Links: The Links Course is wide open and plays at a higher elevation, up above the Bear Creek Dam. The Links is a Scottish-style Nine set against a sweeping vista of the Rocky Mountain foothills rising steeply to the west.

With five sets of tees, golfers of every ability will feel at home.

WoW!! What a surprise to find this course, get the first tee time and to set the pace. I decided to walk ($30) the "Canyon & Meadow" layouts as it was cart path only. I got my workout as the first 5 holes of the Canyon (3,475yds/Par 35) are uphill and then, of course, downhill from there. That #5 hole is one great 445yd Par4 that had me hitting a 6 iron 2nd shot into a green WELL below the fairway. Having a 3 putt from 15' ended one happy walk to the green, oh well, that's golf. I did get sanctification thou on #7 461yd Par 4 with a Birdie coming from another 6 iron shot, having the flat stick sinking a 25' putt, I'm back!! Teamed up with George from Cleveland, OH on the Meadow (3,333yd Par 36) flatter links layout which walked a little easier. More water here winding throughout the layout but good landing areas w/ sand traps (groomed & fluffed) well placed also. Both courses are well marked on yardages and even the tee boxes have preferred landing distances to assist players. Great Idea. Shot 39/39 w/33 putts from the tips, walked 6.4 miles taking 15,670 steps, climbed 18 floors in 3.5hrs but would recommend taking the cart. One other thing, the ball does travel further here in Denver, CO than in Michigan as I was hitting 180yd 6 irons vs normal 150-160yds. This is a must play if you get to this area for price and conditions as you won't be disappointed.

What a great track and private layout without houses, roads, etc.

One of the better munis in the area. Canyon/Meadows is the favored route for eighteen holes, the Links is probably the least desirable nine to play. The layout is challenging without being overly difficult for the average golfer. The holes are enhanced by the natural look, houses are only seen on one hole on the Meadows nine. Pace of play can be a problem as the intervals between groups is very short.

Played on Memorial Day. Slow pace due, in part, to "cart path only" holes, which were not all par 3's. Didn't appear logical. Played the Canyon/Meadows 9's. Very scenic, with an excellent restaurant/bar. Rather pricey for a public course. Decent practice facility.

Without a doubt, the slowest course in the Denver area. Plan on 51/2 to 6 hour round. The men's club provides the "marshals" and the men's club provides most of the regular golfers. No mystery why it's so slow. Terrible experience!

A great municipal facility. I always try to play here when in the Denver area. Three nines, all very challenging. Good food in the clubhouse too.

I love the 27 hole layout. It allows for different 18 hole experiancs and also allows me to play 9 holes early or late. Love the place. Staff is great.

This course has three distinct nine's, The Canyon, The Links and The Meadows, and each is well named. The Canyon/Meadows combination is the most used for 18 play. The Canyon has some nice views due to elevation changes and carries over arroyos. Bear Creek runs through The Meadows providing lushness and water features that the more dry Canyon nine does not have. Over all a very nice variety of holes.

Always a fun course and usually in excellent condition. This time, however, greens were not in good shape. Aerated not too long ago, and patchy. Usually in very good shape, and I have played it 20-plus times. Hopefully this was a one-time blip.
