Detailed description

The Mines Golf Club is a public 18 hole golf facility located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Mines Golf Club opened in August 2005. The course was designed by Mike DeVries.

Devries is a product of the Grand Rapids area and The Mines is his fifth design. Having worked under Tom Doak and Tom Fazio, Mike has returned to Michigan and has become the state's hottest up-and-coming designer having designed gems at Diamond Springs and Kingsley Club

The Mines Golf Club is located above a portion of the old gypsum mines, 5 minutes from the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. The site features mature hardwoods, rolling terrain, and sandy soils. The Mines is a par 70 that measures 6,701 yards, with a slope of 137. The course is generally forgiving on the tee shots and playable through the green. A good short game will help lower your score.

In 2006, The Mines was selected by Golf Digest as the tenth "Best New Public Golf Course Under $75".

Same enjoyable but challangling course that I remembered from 2012. Greens had a few more ball marks that never got fixed but that is the golfers fault as staff can only do so much.

Played with my 3 boys and 14yr old grandaughter and had a great time.

Shot 85/36putts from the black/blues mix boxes and love the rolling layout that makes up the 6,700 yards. Even the holes that are side to side have enough landing area to keep seperate fairways. Typical 100/150/200 markers in the fairway but the rolling layout +/- to the yardages as well as non-typical green layouts.

Four (4) hours playing as a fivesome starting @ 7am is the only way to go as prime time would be MUCH slower. Because of the layout, golfers that spray their shots and look for their lost the $5.00 balls should be playing with the $1.00 "rock" balls sold at the counter.

I'll be back soon and try to remember to read the putts from BOTH sides next time (Big tip).

If you want to test your ability on picking distances, elevation changes, various ball placements in the fairway, this is your track!!! I couldn't bel;ieve that a course this nice could be buried in the city area.

We played it from the blues but next time from the blacks for a better challenge. The white boxes will get you into trouble if driving 230-260yds for the landing areas. I like the 400yd par 4's that give tough greens to hit and hold as the fairways and greens are almost never on the same plane.

Make sure your putter is on its best behavior and look at the putts from BOTH sides as the greens ARE NOT FLAT.

Lower prices during the week and worth every penny.
