Detailed description

Carolina Trace Country Club is a Private 36 hole golf facility located in Sanford, North Carolina The facility has two mountainous championship 18-hole courses, they are The Creek Course and The Lake Course.

Both courses were designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. The Lake Course is the older of the two courses by eight years having opened in 1971. David Whelchel renovated the Lake Course in 2015.

Both courses are tree lined and have water in play on several holes. The types of trees lining the fairways are oak, southern pine, holly, and dogwood. Since these are mountainous course there are numerous elevation changes from tee to green. The courses have very few dogleg fairways.

The Lake Course __________

The Lake Course layout features picturesque views accompanied by championship designs, notably on the 6th and 8th holes, each a par three with dramatic downhill tee shots. The 13th hole is also a par three, with the vast expanse of Lake Trace as a panoramic background. Two par fives on the back nine, the 14th and 18th holes, provide risk-reward options for charging the green in two big shots. Both holes are bordered by water on one side with an inlet of Lake Trace to traverse on the second shot. An added challenge to the 18th hole is the 80-foot drop in elevation over its 507-yard layout.

Reviews

I have family living in this community. I have played both courses many times. Both are outstanding classic Robert Trent Jones Sr. designs. The courses surround Lake Trace with challenging elevation changes. The Lake course has new MiniVerde greens, and the Creek course bent grass greens. The new clubhouse is full service and the food is excellent and fairly priced. Highly recommended!

Some holes played longer than I thought. Perhaps the 150 and sprinkler head yardages were to fron of green rather than middle? Greens were a little thin and very fast. Bermuda rough is very difficult to hit from. Sand traps are large and well placed. Sand is coarse but plentiful. Course staff and members were super nice and accomodating. I also played its sister course (Creek) it would get an identical rating from me.
