Detailed description

Bayou Golf Club, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Texas City, Texas.

Opened in 1974, Bayou Golf Club is the crown jewel of Texas City's multi-million dollar parks expansion program.

Designed by Houston-based architect Joe Finger, the 200-acre site on the bank of Moses Bayou boasts a championship layout with elevated greens and tee boxes.

Amidst the blue sky and palm trees, golfers enjoy the tropical-like climate for year-round play. Omnipresent winds from Galveston Bay, water on 12 holes and 22 sand traps present a challenging course.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6,665 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,448 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 15, a par-5 that plays to 573 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 7, a par-3 that plays to 135 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 17, a 457 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Bayou Golf Club is # 7, the short 135 yard par-3.

Historically, this course was a great value for the money ..... since re-opening, after re-sodding some/all of the greens in 2014, the fees have escalated ($38 with a cart on weekends), you're no longer able to bring your own cart (unless you pay for an annual membership/trail fee combo -- the better part of $1,500), the overall condition (drainage, etc) hasn't been significantly approved. While a few palm trees & an additional statue have been added, only about 50% of the original asphalt cart paths have been replaced with concrete; erosion continues to be a problem on several holes.

I really enjoy this course. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The price is unbeatable. The course is in good shape for a muni course. Very few trees, but lots of water and when the wind is blowing, which is most of the time, it can be a real challenge.

I would recommend this course based on layout and price. No beauty holes, but plenty of diversity for a municipal type track.

I play this course often, 3-5 times per month, course is generally well kept and it is usually a good experience. However there are times when 5 somes and occassionally 6 somes hold up play and that can be a problem. I usually play during the week after 2PM, but occassionally on the weekend after 2 when it is much slower playing and much more crowded. People who run it are very friendly and it is generally a pleasure to play there.
